Once upon a time, there was a king from Banten who had a beatiful daughter, named Princess Cadasari. She was very beautiful and kind to people. However, she was very sad. A powerful prince from another kingdom, named Prince Chunihin, came and planned to marry her. Unfortunately, people did not like him because he was arrogant and mean to them. The king accepted the proposal due to Prince Cunihin’s power.
The marriage was set. Princess Cadasari did not have any choice. Then, she prayed to god. One night she dreamt that she met a handsome man in a park who would help her. She believed her dream was a direction from god.
On the following day, Princess Cadasari went to the park and waited for the handsome man. While she was there, suddenly an old man came to her.
“What’s the matter, Princess ? You look very sad.,” asked the old man, named Pande Gelang. Pande means a maker and gelang means a bracelet. So, that old man made bracelets for a living.
“I have a big problem and I’m here waiting for someone to help me,” replied the princess.
“Please tell me. Maybe I can help you,” the old man said.
The princess hesitated. In her dream, there was a handsome man who would help her, but then it was an old man who offered to help her. She decided to talk about problem to him.
“Don’t worry, Princess, I can help you. Please ask Prince Cunihin to find a big stone a bore a big hole in it. Ask him to put it in the park where you marriage be held. I will put my giant bracelet inside the stone. After that, ask him to go through the bracelet. He will then lose his supernatural power,” the old man told.
Princess Cadasari did what the old man ordered. She asked Prince Cunihin to find a big stone and bore a big hole in it. That was quite easy for Prince Cunihin to fulfil her wish. After he did that, he put the stone in the park where the wedding party would be held. Secretely, Pande Gelang put a giant bracelet inside the stone.
On the wedding day, people were gathered at the park. Before the ceremony started, Princess Cadasari asked Prince Cunihin to go through the stone and she would wait for him on the other side. Arrogantly, Prince Cunihin honored the request. When he walked through the stone, Prince Cunihin screaned in pain and finally fell to the ground. When he got up, he saw Pande Gelang in front of him.
“You did this to me . . .,” said Prince Cunihin.
Amazingly, Prince Cunihin slowly changed into an old man and Pande Gelang changed into a handsome man.
Pande Gelang then explained to Princess Cadasari that he was actually a prince. He also said that in fact, Prince Pande Gelang and Prince Cunihin were the best friend. They were both students of great teacher. After they finished lesson, Prince Cunihin killed the teacher and stole Prince Pande Gelang’s power. Prince Pande Gelang would get his power back if Prince Cunihin would go through his bracelet.
Princess Cadasari was verry happy. Not long after that, Prince Pande Gelang and Princess Cadasari were married. People were very happy. Then, they named the palace Pande Gelang. It is now known as Pandeglang.
